Screenplay by Sylvester Stallone and starring Jason Statham, Homefront is a formulaic tough guy action movie. If you like Statham and the genre, you’ll enjoy this film.
The premise is pretty basic. Phil Broker (Statham) and his young daughter move to a small Lousiana town after his wife dies. Wanting to start over, things don’t go as smoothly as Broker hopes. The movie has some great scenes (I really like the bully scene at school) and some good Tough Guy Wisdom quotes. Safety tip here – when Broker tells you to rethink something, you should probably listen.
This film won’t be nominated for any awards, and it’s not going to be a blockbuster and bring in the money as a few of the other films out right now like the new Hunger Games movie and Thor sequel. However, it is still an enjoyable movie for those of us who enjoy a good tough guy action movie. The formula has been done before in many ways, but that takes nothing away from this addition to the genre.
Statham’s a badass and it’s fun to watch him take on bad guys. I enjoyed the move.
