Setting:

Shane’s final speech to Joey (Brandon De Wilde) about why he won’t be going back with him, which continues, “Can’t break the mold.  I tried it, and it didn’t work for me… Joey, there’s no living with a killing.  There’s no going back from one.  Right or wrong, it’s a brand, and a brand sticks.  There’s no going back.”  Shane tells the boy to go back to his parents and then rides off to the sound of one of the most famous of movie lines, “Shane!  Shane!  Come back!”

Movie Trivia:

The movie line, “Shane! Shane! Come back!” was voted as the #47 (out of 100) movie quote by the American Film Institute.  The line was voted #69 of “The 100 Greatest Movie Lines” by Premiere in 2007.

About the Actor:

The role that helped make Alan Ladd’s career was playing Philip Raven, a hitman with a conscience in This Gun for Hire (1942).
